Do You Want to be a Better Mom? Remember the Gospel.

I love all that the gals over at Flourish Motherhood are doing through their blog and magazine, and am honored to be writing on their site today! Here is a snippet from that post.

Whether you have been a mom for twenty years or twenty minutes, I have a hunch that you have experienced those gnawing feelings in the pit of your stomach at one time or another:

If only I were a better mom!

If only I didn’t yell at my kids so much or get so upset when they interrupt my quiet time!

What must I do to finally be a better mom?

I know those feelings all too well, and I have only been a mom for 3 years with two young children! I used to throw my hands up in despair every time I lost my temper with my kids, thinking that I should know better and be better by now. After all, how many times have I repented of my selfishness and my mommy anger? How many times have I seen so clearly the existence of my sin and desired to be different? How many times have I felt like this whole sanctification process was hopeless and taking just a little too long for my liking?

The whole time, I had been making a big mistake. I had been fixing my eyes on myself – my mistakes, my struggles, my sin nature – instead of on Christ. That, my sweet friend, is where we get ourselves into trouble very quickly.

The truth is that if we want to be better moms, we are going to have to go back to the beginning and remember the truths and implications of the gospel, the gospel which is oh so applicable and relevant to our everyday lives as moms. That is what I want to encourage you with today.
