Book Review: “The Society of Extraordinary Raccoon Society: On Boasting” by Randall Goodgame

We have become such a fan around here of Randall Goodgame’s Slugs and Bugs series of books, so when the opportunity arose to review his newest book in the “Society of Extraordinary Raccoon Society” series, I jumped at it!   In this delightful new children’s book, “The Society of Extraordinary Raccoon Society: On Boasting”, you are reacquainted with  the same community of raccoons who, in the first book, were determined to break free from the thieving raccoon lifestyle. Instead of continuing on in their thieving ways, they decided to begin giving away all the things which they had stolen from others. In this newest book in the series, young Maggie and Morty are still doing a wonderful job of giving to others, but this life of service and charity has led to their become rather proud of themselves. Now, rather than having a thieving problem, they have a boasting problem. From wise old Chauncey they learn what the Bible has to say about giving and the importance of doing so in secret, so that we receive a reward not from this world, but from the God for Whom we serve others in the first place. Not only is the message of this book an important one, the illustrations in it are as cute as they can be. Likewise, the quick, lyrical nature of the written words make it so fun to read aloud. I highly recommend this book, as it will not only teach your children some rather important lessons, but it will provide the whole family with some sweet and fun read-aloud memories, as well!   * I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
