I first came across the wonderful world of podcasts in the fall of 2015 and have never looked back! Being able to listen to an encouraging, inspiring, or thought-provoking podcast while cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry has made all those household chores so much more enjoyable for me! I’ve even been known to listen to podcasts while showering or driving in the car. 😉 The Lord has truly used them to encourage me in my mothering and my marriage, to draw me closer to Him, and to equip me for this Christian walk.
So, today, I want to share with you ladies my top 10 favorite podcasts for Christian moms. I hope you enjoy and find something in this list that will encourage you, as well!
Sally Clarkson‘s podcast was the first one I ever listened to and the one which got me forever hooked on podcasts. As many of you know, Sally is my hero when it comes to motherhood, so, needless to say, her podcast is chock full of wisdom, encouragement, inspiration, and uplifting advice for Christian moms in all walks of life. On At Home with Sally, she is joined by her cohost Kristen Kill, who is an absolute gem herself, and they talk about all aspects of motherhood, how to cultivate life-giving homes, the work of bringing beauty to the everyday, how to mother when the going gets tough and life circumstances are dark and discouraging, how to own our lives and be proactive and diligent with the time the Lord gives us on this earth, and much more. It is a must-listen! You will walk away inspired, encouraged, and ready to tackle life each time you tune in.
Ladies, when you listen to the Risen Motherhood podcast, you are in for such a treat! Co-hosted by sisters-in-law and fellow mamas of littles, Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler, the Risen Motherhood podcast features episodes that are each only about 15-20 minutes long, so super easy for a busy mama to listen to. They take all of the really practical, everyday issues of motherhood, such as potty training, nap times, breastfeeding vs. bottle feeding, mommy advice, family devotions with little ones, postpartum body image, mom guilt, and putting your husband first, and apply the Gospel to each of those issues. They show, in such powerful ways, that the truths of God’s Word and what He has done for us, really do affect every area of motherhood - even those areas which seem pointless or mundane. If you are needing encouragement and fresh vision and perspective for the everyday issues of motherhood, do yourself a favor and check out this podcast!!
The Busy Mom with Heidi St. John
I just adore Kristi Clover (and am so excited to announce that she is actually going to be on my podcast this spring!). I first came across her and her ministry in the fall of 2015 during the height of the Periscope craze. Kristi’s joy, love of life, and sweet spirit are just infectious! It truly is her passion to equip us moms to live more simply and to be more joyful and she is awesome at giving us tips for how to do just that. To that end, in addition to her wonderful writing and speaking ministry, she launched the Simply Joyful podcast just this January. I have listened to each and every episode she has released thus far (you can actually catch Heidi St. John on two episodes of Kristi’s podcast!) and have enjoyed them so much. She has interviewed some amazing women on topics such as cultivating a creative life at home, making the most of your mornings, advice for a successful marriage, countercultural parenting, Biblical encouragement for busy moms, and encouragement for the weary mom. Such good stuff! Listen in and instantly have your spirits lifted.
Emily Thomas, of the Mom Struggling Well podcast, is an absolute hoot! If you don’t follow her on Instagram, hop over there right now and start following her and her Instastories! Every time I see that she has a new Instagram Story, I just have to watch it, because her sense of humor is the best and she positively cracks me up. She has such a gift! Her podcast is all about interviewing moms who have gone from really struggling in some area of their lives, to struggling well, meaning that these are testimonies of how the Lord has been working in their lives to help and equip them through their struggles, to sanctify and grow them, and to show them that He brings good out of everything. You’ll hear from moms on topics such as loss, disappointment, fear and worry, restoring a broken marriage, the challenge of contentment, valley seasons of our lives, protecting our children, discipleship, surrendering to the Lord’s will, miscarriage, caring for orphans and refugees, and much more! You can even hear Kristen Kill of the At Home with Sally podcast on one of these episodes! I can’t wait for when I have Emily on the Home and Hearth podcast later this spring, where she will share her own story of being a mom struggling well!
I first came across MacKenzie Monroe and her Cultivating the Lovely ministry in the fall of 2015 through her Periscope show (she and Kristi Clover followed each other on there and I followed both of them!). Of her podcast she writes, “[Cultivating the Lovely the Podcast is] all about pouring the labor, care and study into the roles that God has given us as wives, moms, women, homemakers and His children. It is meant to inspire us to be living with passion, intention, beauty and delight in the everyday moments, right where we’re at.” That is exactly what I have found her wonderful podcast to be. When you check out Cultivating the Lovely, you’ll hear such gems of wisdom as how to cultivate your own family culture, creating a life-giving home (this was a wonderful interview with Sally Clarkson and her daughter, Sarah!), the importance of being in the Word, fitness, decluttering, etc. And if you love Kristi Clover’s podcast, she appears in one of the Cultivating the Lovely episodes, as well!
Inspired to Action: Inspiration for Motherhood
Kat Lee of Hello Mornings hosts the Inspired to Action podcast where, each week, she interviews an author, blogger, or other guest who has wisdom to share that will help us along in our Christian walks, marriages, and motherhood. Past guests have included Sally Clarkson, Beth Moore, Karen Ehman, Katie Orr, Lisa-Jo Baker, Crystal Paine, Kristen Kill, Crystal Evans Hurst (Tony Evans’ daughter and Priscilla Shirer’s sister), Shauna Niequist, and Emily Freeman. You don’t want to miss this wonderful podcast!
Heather MacFadyen hosts the God Centered Mom podcast, the format of which is similar to Inspired to Action in that episodes of this podcast also feature interviews with various authors, speakers, writers, and influencers in Christendom today, as well as chats with personal friends of Heather’s whom she finds encouraging and inspiring. She describes it as, “interviews with guests about staying God-centered in a shaky mom world. Hearing vulnerable moments and examples of God’s faithfulness in the past, helps you, the listener, build firm faith foundations for the future. Reminding us of our position-centered in God’s presence and love.” You can hear chats with folks such as Sally Clarkson, Lysa TerKeurst, Francie Winslow, Sarah MacKenzie, Bonni Greiner (who will be on the Home and Hearth podcast in a few weeks!), Ruth Soukup, and many more. Each episode is jam-packed with wisdom, insight, and encouragement for your daily walk as a mom!
Tiffany Castleberry describes the message behind her podcast with these words, “As a mom your first responsibility is to your family and you should take that calling seriously, but there is so much more out there. God has given you a unique set of gifts and talents to be used to lead others to Christ. That little place where your passions and God’s purpose collide- that’s your mission field. And as you raise your children to love and serve the Lord, God will use your entire family, together, to further His kingdom. I’m a mom of 7 who is trying to figure all this stuff out right beside you. My prayer is that this podcast will help equip families to reach communities and impact the world.” Her podcast truly does just that. I have been so inspired by the thought-provoking episodes she shares and have even referenced two of those episodes in my articles Liberal, Conservative, or Biblical? and Racial Tension and the Unified Body of Christ.
The Homemaking Foundations Podcast with Jami Balmet contains a wealth of information for the Christian homemaker. With episodes covering such topics as finding the time to read as a busy homemaker, avoiding burn out, meal planning, when motherhood is tough, practicing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading and prayer, budgeting, healthy living, freezer cooking, and much more, you are sure to find the help you need to be successful in your homemaking. As a busy mom of 5 kiddos 4 and under (yes, you read that correctly - she has two sets of twin boys and a brand new baby girl), she has so much wisdom and insight to share with us when it comes to right priorities, hard work and self-discipline in our homemaking, and joy in our family life.
