Book Review: “Easter is Coming!” by Tama Fortner

I am always on the lookout for books and other resources to aid me in my mission of teaching my children the implications of Easter and what it is we are truly celebrating on that holiday. So, naturally, when the opportunity arose for me to review Tama Fortner’s new book, Easter is Coming!, I jumped at it!

To give you an idea of what this book is about, here is its official synopsis:

In a time when children’s Easter excitement often focuses on only egg hunts and candy, this book offers a different—and true—reason for joy and expectancy. It’s designed to be read and reread on the days leading up to Easter, telling the greatest story and building a sense of anticipation and celebration in little hearts.

I can vouch for the fact that this book delivers exactly what it promises to! I was so pleased with it because, far from being merely surface-level or cartoony as many children’s books are when talking about God, this one dives far deeper than that. Tama weaves in and through this entire book the history of God’s story from creation and the dawn of time to the time of the prophets, the birth of Christ, His death, His resurrection, and ultimately all the way to today and how the celebration of the good news of Jesus’ resurrection is able to impact our everyday lives!

Not only is this book deep theologically and biblically, it is also absolutely delightful in its artwork. The illustrations are colorful, full of emotion, and just downright beautiful. Both of my kids became enthralled with the book from the first time I read it to them and my daughter immediately asked me to read it again when I had finished.

If you are looking for a great book to entertain, capture the interest of your children, and introduce them to the good news and its implications which we celebrate on Easter Sunday, then this is the one for you!
